About the Event
Looking for a space to explore your creativity, calm your mind and reap the benefits of time spent with like minded people, away from screens and fully connected to the present? Then this exploratory embroidery course is for you.Â
We will begin the course with a discussion abut what you would like to learn and set some goals for the course. I have  loosely structured each week around a theme  but there is plenty of opportunity to learn, experiment and tailor the evenings to each individual. If you have a plan but not the resources or time to action it at home, then my inspiring studio is the place for you!Â
At the end of the course you will have explored many different ways to expand and enhance your embroidery practice.Â
My  studio is packed to the rafters with everything a crafter could want; beads, sequins, buttons, fabrics galore, needles, ribbons, transfers, iron on vinyl, a rainbow of threads and yarns, scissors, heat presses and stencils all available for you to use. If the weather is nice we can stitch in the evening sunshine in my secluded garden. Â
The workshops are suitable for beginners and more experienced stitchers, with space for just 5 people, there is plenty of opportunity for one to one tuition during the classes and you will be able to work at your own pace. Each week you will explore a different theme - a tasting menu of embroidery! If one particular technique grabs you then you will have the opportunity to explore this further over the course.
15th May Week 1 Â Plan your Stitching JourneyÂ
We begin the course by creating a stitch book. This hand bound sketchbook will use a selection of fabrics as pages for you to experiment on and explore different ways of working with embroidery and mark making.
You will continue to decorate and add to your stitch book over the course and it will become an important record of your creative journey.
22nd May Week 2 Sew like SewyeahÂ
Learn some of my favourite stitches and how to embellish your work with beads, sequins and other 3D items. You will be able to play with with vintage embroidery patterns and other transfer techniques
29th HALF TERM BREAK
5th May Week 3 Abstract Patterns + Affirmation banners
Using Iron On Vinyl and a heat press, I will show you how to create abstract patterns or slogan banners and how to enhance them with stitches and decoration.
12th June Week 4 Texture
This week we will step away from the traditional embroidery flosses and experiment with alternative materials for stitching. Raid my ribbon box and my yarn stash to create an incredibly textured piece.
19th June Week 5 Rosettes
Use the skills learnt in the previous weeks and make your own course completion rosette.Â
Classes are 7.30 to 9.30 all materials and light refreshments provided.
The price is for the course of five classes - I'm afraid it is not possible to book just for individual classes.
The Sewyeah Studio is conveniently located a 5 minute walk from Ladywell Station, a 20 minute train ride from London Bridge or Charing Cross.
